Past Events - Orchestral Playing, Teaching &
Conducting
Orchestral and Teaching Experience between 1976
& 2007
My first orchestral experience was playing in the
North Shore Junior Strings
way back in the seventies - North Shore Teachers
College
1979. I then successfully auditioned for the
North Shore Youth Orchestra.
David Britten took over the role of Conductor. I had
some Conducting lessons from him during this time,
and discovered that I loved waving that baton
around.
1981 - joined the Auckland Secondary Schools
Orchestra.
Then went on to join the Auckland Youth Orchestra
touring the North Island of N.Z. Started teaching private pupils Classical
Violin.
Also began working at the Belmont Music Centre on
Saturday mornings. and continued working there
for fourteen years.
1982 - I secured a position as
Conductor of the North Shore Youth Orchestra -
and also conducted The Bays Orchestra for Adults.
Then made it to the Auckland Symphony Orchestra,
meeting up once again with the very talented Gary
Daverne.
1983 -
Attended Loretto Hall, Teachers Training College in
1983.
Exchanged to Auckland College of Education 1984
Graduated in 1985.
Became a Registered Teacher in 1986
My first Teaching Position was at St. Joseph's
Primary School - Takapuna until 1991 I resigned full
time to offer my services part time, (as I was
getting quite busy) as a Music Specialist
there.
1993 - My hairdresser told me a "Music Specialist" job
was advertised for Marina View School - West
Harbour.. I rang Principal at the time, Peter Ayson straight away, went for an interview and got
the job. Moved out West, and have been there ever
since. 1994 - 2007
2004 -
Was invited to join TEAM SOLUTIONS at The Auckland
College of Education in 2004. I went for a
four week trial, but missed my classroom, and hands
on teaching a bit too much.. ..Driving in Auckland
'peak' traffic wasn't so crash hot either!!!
So I went back to M.V.S a happy chappy and as
I recall they were happy I did too.
